Fishing Report 7/28/2009

Reports are that this year’s Summer Salmon fishing  is HOT! One angler, who’s fished the Puget Sound for decades, told me yesterday that this is the best Summer for Chinook in Area 9 he’s ever had, as far as size and quality goes.

Specifically, he had a 15 pounder he got from Bush Point. On Sunday, two anglers brought in a 21# and a 12# from Point no Point and on Saturday someone had a nice keeper from Possession.

Al Pualani, the winner of our ’06 Derby,  just got back from Sekiu last week and said they not only limited out on Chinook and Coho, but they also couldn’t keep the Humpys off the line! If that info is any indication, the Humpy opener up here should be fantastic. In case you weren’t paying attention, Coho and Humpys open in Areas 8-1 & 8-2 this Saturday, August 1st. He also said that Coho Killer spoons were outfishing Coyote spoons 10:1!

If you haven’t already, you need to signup for our derby on August 29th and 30th. The more participants we have, not only do we raise more for the charity, but the prize money pool gets bigger too!

Fishing Report: 3/6/08

Well, Marv Flickner & Dan Rommell, the Sultans of Salmon themselves, came in after a hard day of work with 2 beautiful Blackmouth to show for it. Apparently, Onamac is still the place to be if you want to get a piece of the action.

It was a tough battle to get Marv to give up his secrets. But after many hours of investigation here at Elger Bay Grocery(which just so happens to be where Marv and Dan buy all their gear), I’ve determined they used the following setup:

An “army truck” coho killer on a 32″ leader from a red/silver flasher. Both the flasher AND the lure were smeared with Pautzke’s Gel Krill, the hottest attractant in the Saratoga Passage. My secret photographer captured this photo of their purchase this morning as the pair were about to head out:

Seriously folks; everyone I’ve talked to about this combo is having some measure of consistant success. If you don’t have both of these items in your tackle box, stop by today and pick ’em up.
