Elger Bay Grocery & Gifts

THE place for everything Fishing & Crabbing around Camano Island

Fishing Report 12/5/11

For a nice change of pace, the fishing report last week was actually very good. While crabbers are still catching enough Dungies to fill their dinner plates, Blackmouth fishermen had decent success around Elger Bay, Sandy Beach and in front of the State Park boat launch. Several fish each day were brought in and weighed at the store, with many more shakers and natives thrown back those same days. Most of the success was had trolling with spoons and herring near the bottom.

Glen is still in the lead of the Elger Bay running derby with his 15 pounder, but the competition is hot on his tail! One new participant landed a 19lb keeper but had just signed up for the derby that morning so we couldn’t weigh his fish for the contest. He vowed to keep at it though!

Crabbing closes at the end of this month but Chinook Salmon will stay open until April 30th.

Derby Signups extended

In order to raise more money for ServeItUp, the charity benefitting from our derby, we have decided to extend derby signups through all of Friday. However, anyone who signs up AFTER 7am may not weigh-in a fish until Saturday in order to prevent cheating. This also has the added benefit of increasing the amount of cash prizes that will be awarded! We close at 9pm nightly.

There’s a new derby leader in town…

Jeff Audet, owner of FISHBONES Guide Service on Camano Island, brought in an enormous 23lb 0oz Blackmouth today! This fish of course takes the lead in the Elger Bay Grocery running derby from Glen Helton with his 17lb 3oz fish that was caught back in November. There’s still 2 weeks left for all of you other anglers to get in on the derby action(must wait 3 days before weighing a fish though) with our wrap-up happening on Saturday, April 30th. Just think, this fish could’ve been yours if you had been Jeff’s customer today… 360-913-3107.

Salmon Derby THIS WEEKEND!

Friday night at 9pm is the deadline for sign ups for the Elger Bay Grocery 3rd 50/50 Charity Salmon Derby. You should see the pile of prizes I’ve got stockpiled, thanks to all of our generous sponsors! Not to mention that the more people who sign up; the more cash gets awarded to 1st – 3rd and the more we are able to donate to the charity!

Currently, it looks like fishing will be great this weekend; and so will the weather! What better way to spend an afternoon than to fish for prizes while simultaneously contributing to a great cause? The folks from the Safe Harbor Free Clinic in Stanwood(this year’s derby donation recipient) will be at the weigh-in table both days with info and brochures and to answer any questions you have about their organization.

Hope to see you there!
